Smaller or more distant locations are usually better because fewer people are thronging the learning areas and ski slopes for beginners.
Bromley and Pico are both excellent instructors and novice friendly areas. Okemo has an excellent ski school, but I think the beginner's area is too narrow if you are courses on the weekends.
